Oh my goodness – it’s the middle of November! That’s seriously crazy, this year has gone by in the blink of an eye. With Adam and I’s first holiday season as a married couple right around the corner, I’ve been constantly thinking of traditions I want to start for our family.

I’ve come across so many AMAZING ideas (thanks Pinterest) and thought I’d share my 5 favorites traditions with you!

1) Send Out Invitations

Personally, my family was never this formal we just made some phone calls. However, I just came across Punchbowl which is a free site that allows you to send invitations via email or text and it’s amazing. You can look like you’re super put together and a pro planner, but in reality, this takes so much less time than making individual phone calls.

2) A Memory Book

I’m pretty big on sentiments but I don’t have the time to scrapbook like I’d like to. This Scrapbook idea is as easy as it gets, just buy any scrapbook that has open sleeves inside for large pieces of paper. For each holiday get 2-3 pages of scrapbooking paper and put the year and the holiday at the top of each page. Then have your family and guests sign the paper throughout night and pass around a camera for your guests to take photos.

The next day pick out your favorite photos and place an order. When your photos arrive in the mail you can put them on the backside of each signed page and stick them into your memory book! That’s it, a super easy and special way to remember your holidays.

3) Recipe Sharing Cards

Let’s be real, there’s always at least one meal at Thanksgiving that you wish you would have made. Print out some recipe cards before your dinner party and set them out on a table and ask your guests to share their recipes with you! You’ll earn total bonus points if you share all the recipe cards you received with everyone that attended later in a text message or email.

Also, feel free to use this idea for any potluck and not just Thanksgiving! My church does lunch every Sunday and there’s always some dishes I’m dying to recreate!

4) Family Gratitude Jar

This is pretty close to a family tradition I always did growing up, but this one takes the pressure off you a little bit! As a kid we’d always sit around the table and say what we were grateful for, this tradition has the same idea but you write it down anonymously and then everyone can draw a card during dinner and read out the answers. I love this idea for two reasons 1) it gives you more time to think about your answer and write something well thought out and 2) I hate public speaking so I like that the answer you’re reading aloud isn’t so personal to you.

5) Play Some Table Games

I never knew that some people didn’t play games after Thanksgiving until I went to my Husbands families house for the first time. Granted, my family plays games after every dinner party they have but still, I was shocked!

Pick out some table games like charades, catchphrase, speak out, etc. Once dinner is over to keep the party going and have some laughs with your guests!

That’s all for my favorite Thanksgiving traditions – let me know what yours are in the comments!
