The world tells us that being a homemaker is less impactful than pursuing a career outside our home. But, that does not have to be true, and it shouldn’t be true!

God’s intention for women is not to have idle roles in ministry. Women are at the heart of ministry! They are speaking into the lives of the next generation every second of every day. Whether we are intentional with our time at home or not, God has placed His children in our care. We have a ministry whether we minister wisely or not.

Here are 5 ways that we as homemakers can have a strong ministry.

Focus on Your Children

Our first ministry as homemakers is to our family! God has entrusted us to care for and plant seeds of faith in His children. Our largest calling and opportunity to minister is first and foremost to our children.

Our children’s generational impact over time is well beyond any impact we as a singular person could have. We have the opportunity to help shape our nation’s future inside the walls of our home!

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

When our priority is outside of the home, our children will notice. Don’t let making a seemingly bigger impact sidetrack you from what’s right in front of you.

Show Hospitality

Another powerful tool homemakers have in ministry is our ability to invite people into our homes! Sure, it may not sound as glamorous as speaking at women’s conferences, but it still makes a HUGE impact.

Showing hospitality is a great way to show people God’s love. He has invited us all into a relationship with him, and we can do the same with the people around us. Inviting someone into our home makes them feel loved, cared for, and worthy.

If you are on a budget and have used that as a reason not to show hospitality in the past, please watch my video, “How to Show Hospitality on a Budget.” Lack of finances should not be an excuse for inviting people in! Guests don’t need fancy things to feel loved. A glass of water and a warm welcoming will be more than enough to suffice.

Make Meals for Families in Need

I have personally felt God’s love and grace in my life through the act of a family bringing me a meal in a transitional period. Cue when my son was firstborn, and I felt exhausted and overwhelmed with my new life. Having one less thing to think about was so helpful I can’t even put it into words.

Knowing that the community God placed me in cared for me in this way made me see that God was using his people to show his love for me.

Babysit Kids for Couples to do Date Nights

A HUGE way you can bless other family’s ministries, while also ministering God’s selfless love yourself is by offering to babysit so a couple can go on a date.

Having alone time after kids is much harder. Not only do you have to be more intentional, but if you don’t live near family it also costs more. Offering to bless someone by watching their kids so they can have alone time is such a life-giving gift. This will minister to them God’s selfless love and also allow them to walk in unity so they can have a stronger ministry themselves.

Do a Bible Study With a Friend(s)

Another great way to have a strong ministry as a homemaker is by opening up your home to women or couples to learn about God through a Bible study.

You don’t have to be a practiced theologian to dive into God’s word. Thank goodness! God has invited us all to read and participate in His goodness. Hosting a bible study can be as formal or as casual as you want. Whether you are just reading and washing each other with scripture, or you’re diving deep into hermeneutics, or somewhere in between the two, there is a richness to be found.
