Hey friends! If you’re anything like I was the first week I became a mother, then you might be finding yourself googling the question, “Can you die from sleep deprivation?” Yeah… Not kidding, I really did that.
When I brought my son home from the hospital he would NOT go in his bassinet. He refused and would cry till his face turned purple. The only place he would doze off was in mine or Adam’s arms. That meant that I got zero sleep. Literally. For the first 48 hours after bringing him home, I didn’t get one minute of rest. Then, for the following two weeks, I got 3 hours of sleep each night when Adam would watch him.
At the three week mark, he had gained plenty of weight and I asked my pediatrician in desperation what I could do. She gave me the okay to let him cry a little so he could learn to sleep. While, she said I could let him cry for 10 minutes, I just didn’t feel comfortable with that yet. He was only 3 weeks, and I didn’t want to “break” my baby like many mothers warn will happen if you do sleep training to young.
However, after hearing from some amazing mama’s I personally know and seeing their relationship with their kids I got a little less scared. I also read some sleep training books, including 12 Hours of Sleep by 12 Weeks. Once I got a plethora of information I weeded out what I didn’t want to do, and kept what I did.
Needless to say, what I implemented worked! Yay! So, I wanted to share with all of you fellow sleep-deprived mama’s how I got my son to sleep 11-12 hours every night by 12 weeks.
